The 500 Supporters’ Group Spring Racing Luncheon – Melbourne

The 500 Supporters’ Group 2011 Spring Racing Luncheon is to be held in the Olympic Room at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Tuesday, 25 October. Since its formation in 2000, The 500 Supporters’ Group twice yearly sports luncheons have raised over $1m for educational and medical programs and facilities in East Africa, with a particular focus on the Ruben Centre in Nairobi’s Mukuru slum – home to around 500,000 people.

Master of ceremonies, Leon Wiegard, will be joined by experts to prepare luncheon guests for a winning Spring Racing Carnival: Peter Moody – master trainer of Australian and world champion sprinter, Black Caviar; Simon Marshall – leading commentator and former great of the saddle with 16 group 1 winners and more than 700 overall and Michael Burn – VRC Chairman and host of the 150th running of the Melbourne Cup, who will be bringing the 2011 and 1966 Melbourne Cups for display.

Time: 11.45am for 12pm lunch. Dress in Spring Carnival style and ladies, hats are welcome. Book a table for 10 before 10 October and go into a draw for a bottle of Grange. RSVP: Thursday 20 October 2011.

Inaugural Edmund Rice Tapas Evening – Sydney

The Edmund Rice Tapas Evening will be an inaugural event for the past students’ network of Christian Brothers’ schools in New South Wales. The event will support Callan Services, the major provider of education in and provision of community based rehabilitation services for people with disabilities in Papua New Guinea (established by the Christian Brothers in 1991). Also supported will be Edmund Rice Camps NSW and programs for indigenous Australians conducted by Edmund Rice Centre, Homebush NSW.

Date: Friday, 4 November. Venue: Pier 8+9, 23 Hickson Road, Millers Point. Time: 6.30pm. Tickets include: beer, wine & champagne and a comprehensive tapas package prepared by the kitchen of Luke Mangan, one of Australia’s leading chefs and restaurateurs and highly regarded internationally as a shining example of Australia’s culinary culture.
