News from East Africa – during January a group of young adults, 12 from Melbourne and 14 from Perth undertook an immersion experience in Kenya and Tanzania, sharing their skills with local youth in a variety of placements. They also worked with young people from Edmund Rice Youth Kenya and Edmund Rice Sinon Secondary School (Arusha, Tanzania) conducting Edmund Rice Camps for children from the Kibera slum (Nairobi) and Arusha district. A great bond developed between the young people from Australia and those from Kenya and Tanzania.
Ruben Centre opened it gates for business as usual on January 3. A very large number of people attended, including over 350 new children seeking places in classes 2 and 6 in Ruben School. On January 7, Ruben Centre Management Team gathered for a weekend workshop on leadership and management facilitated by Peter Hudson (HR Manager, Xavier College, Melbourne, Australia).
