HALF WAY DAY AND WALKATHON
Half Way Day at St Virgil’s College is to be held on Friday, 15 July. A highlight of this year’s activities will be a Walkathon to raise funds for the Mary Rice Day Care Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. Half Way Day challenges students to look beyond themselves and contribute to making a difference in the lives of very underprivileged people. In the process of seeking sponsors, the students are being challenged to educate people about who the funds are for and why they are being raised for them. The Parents and Friends Association will be providing support by hosting a BBQ lunch after the Walkathon.
The Mary Rice Centre supports children with physical and intellectual disabilities in the Kibera slum, providing assistance with the development of living and social skills and with transition to mainstream schooling and vocational training. Mary Rice Centre also works with the local community to improve understanding of disability and through education and parent networks helps parents with the care of their disabled family member.
