Annual Xavier Charity Dinner

The annual Xavier Charity Dinner was held on August 2nd at the Victoria Park Function Centre, Brisbane. This year the main beneficiary was Edmund Rice Camps, Queensland (ERCQ), which provides camps, day programs, mentoring activities and recreational activities for children (aged 8–15) and families who are socially or financially disadvantaged. ERCQ also provides personal development opportunities in leadership and social understanding and awareness for the young adult volunteers who conduct its programs.

The Xavier Dinner Committee is completely volunteer-based and enables local business men to work together to help those less fortunate, especially through the support of smaller groups that often get neglected by larger funding organisations. Guest speakers at this year’s dinner were John Symond AM, Founder and Executive Chair of Aussie Home Loans and well known as a consumer champion and Alice McMonagle, Executive Officer, Edmund Rice Camps, Queensland, who in 2004-5 worked as a volunteer assisting with the establishment of Edmund Rice Camps in Cape Town, South Africa.
